Last month Government of India launched a exclusive portal for the disabled in India. They call it is as Punarbhava which means renewed being. This websites caters to the disabled populations as well as those associated with them like relatives, NGOs etc. This is an initiative from Media Lab Asia in collaboration with Rehabilitation Council of India.

Punarbhava plans to empower disabled population by providing them information, discussing their issues and finding employment etc. There is a separate section for grievance redressal and devices. They have options for online chat, blogs and discussion forum. The navigation is user friendly with large text options and multiple colors.

In India, the rights of the disabled are protected by the Persons with Disabilities Act 1996. Interestingly, there is another website which cater the same subject. The Disability India Network, gives comprehensive information related to disability in India, and is hosted by the Society for Child Development.
