Take your CAT Online; Choose your Date
5 years after the first ever fraud in CAT exams, IIMs have finally decided to change the exam format to online from 2009. Every year thousands of candidates take the exam to get into IIMs and other business schools. Initially there will be around 100 centers and candidates will have to to take the exam in batches on different dates. Unlike GMAT, candidates of CAT would not get the score immediately. Last year IIMs were in touch with Prometric for administering the online test. But it looks like now the offer is open to all IT Companies. There is 40% to 50% hike in exam fee (Rs. 1500 from Rs.1100). Well, I think the fees can come down in due course.
GMAT is being online since 1953. It began as an association of nine business schools whose goal was to develop a standardized test to help business schools select qualified applicants. This is now the standard exam for most business schools in the world. This test is taken more than 200,000 times annually. In India, Xavier’s Admission Test (XAT) was computerized in 2002.
I would think IIMs should definitely think of having a couple of centers internationally. There are many potential candidates (read software engineers) working overseas at the time of the exam. CAT is said to be the toughest entrance exam. Every year, CAT has some surprise element in its question/format. Can CAT maintain its surprises while being online?
