Airtel uses GoogleApps for Email (and Portal)

I took some time to understand what AirtelLive was all about. Finally, I figured out what had happened. In this webpage, Airtel asked its customers to upgrade to the new email service by Feb 29th, 2008. All the features they claim in the website like 6GB space, customizable web page, chatting/emailing from mobile, and spam filtering are provided by Standard Edition of Google Apps, which is free. After almost a month they have a portal (part of Google Apps) AirtelLive for the customers. The users are redirected to AirtelMail site, which is the so-called portal.
Airtel claims to be the first telco in India to offer Google products on its portal. Well I hope they know that Google products (documents, presentation, email, chat etc) are free to everyone. I checked some of the clients that use Google Apps. Companies used to Google Apps to enhance their internal online communication system (chat, email etc) by outsourcing the technology work to Google.
Who wants a 6GB email service from Airtel, when they can get it from Google. And why should a user use documents and presentations through Airtel, when it is available otherwise. Airtel has partnered with sites like shaadi.com, 24×7guru and naukri.com to offer exclusive deals and discounts on the portal. I really doubt if this is a smart move by Airtel.
