Indian IT majors cashing on global presence
Last week, TCS has started North America Delivery center called TCS Seven Hills Park (Cincinnati), located in Milford,Ohio. This center will be creating more than 1000 job offers, there by becoming largest U.S. development center by an India based IT services company. TCS wants to serve North American customers through innovation and recruiting more from local universities.
According to the CEO S. Ramadorai, the Cincinnati campus is a strategic investment to create an information technology eco-system in the state together with customers and local universities. TCS has been operating in North America since 1979. Now TCS has around 40 offices in North America. Infosys, Wipro and Satyam are also expanding their global presence.
IT Majors have realized the importance of building a global presence. Generally companies do so by opening offices around the globe and recruiting local talent. Hence having diverse workforce. A greater US presence can win Indian companies more clients who otherwise hesitate to send data to outsourced units.
Last year Steve Hamm of Businessweek in an article, called this as reverse offshoring. Hiring in US seems to be cheaper, as the value in rupee is seeing a downtrend and the steady growth of Indian salaries. And they can keep US lawmakers happier by hiring people from US than bringing in more H1B workers.
Startup companies often complain that they do not find experts to work for them, because of offering comparatively lower salary. This trend may help stabilize the salaries of IT Professionals in India. So will this bring some hope to the startup companies? We may have to wait and see.
