Watch Malayalam movies online using 2DMovie
2DMovie is a online portal which offers Malayalam movies. The customers can legally view or download Malayalam movies by paying a license fee. This is an effective way to reach wider audience and beat piracy.
Majority of the traffic to the site is from India (22%), Qatar (18.7%) and US (11.5%). The 2D team is being lead by Jesinlal James. It all started by selling internet rights of his own movie Oridam
They have the following sections- Movies(Malayalam), Other Videos (from Reuters, AP etc), My Paradise (DVD, music and book store), Teasing Movies (not suitable for minors), and Hollywood Movies powered by Amazon Unbox
Here is how 2DMovie looks in block diagram-

Content producers (amateur or professional) can give internet rights for their movie to 2DMovie. 2DMovie will store the movie in their server. Customers can choose the movie they want to watch and pay the license fee. The license is specific to the system to which the movie is downloaded. The systems provides two types of download- standard and premium. They have approximately 600 movies. Currently 2DMovie offer only Malayalam movies. The rental for a movie is around $2 and purchase of a movie is around $8.
Apart from license fee, 2DMovie gets revenue from Google Ads and Ad Toll. It also sells Hollywood Movie downloads through Amazon Unbox. According to Ad Toll, a 120×60 Ad Button (for March 5,2008) at right top in home page costs $2 per week. They have plans to support the system through advertisements and do away with user license fee. 2DMovie has a revenue sharing scheme with the producers.
This site needs a fresh look. The performance of the site needs to be improved. There are couple of pop-up advertisements which is very distractive. They can think of having monthly subscription fee similar Netflix. They can also work with the TV Broadcasters like Asianet and Surya to stream Malayalam programs. They could earn additional revenue by showing latest movie trailers and songs.
